Training start at Buschjost: Good start - well qualified

At the beginning of the new educational year, six new trainees and one dual study student started their professional future at Buschjost GmbH: one industrial management assistant, two industrial mechanics, one specialist for warehouse logistics, one cutting machine operator, one tool maker and one business management student specialising in supply chain management.

This means that the company currently employs a total of 24 trainees and 7 dual study students. There's a very good reason for this: "We recruit our up-and-coming employees from our trainees", explains chief executive Oliver Wehking. "It is important for us to train good employees, because the trainees strongly identify with the company and after successfully completing training in their specialist areas, they make an important contribution to the success of the company."

Chief executive Oliver Wehking and head of personnel Lutz Missbach greeted the new Buschjost employees on their first day. After enjoying breakfast with the "old" trainees, they went on a little rally around our headquarters to discover the company for themselves. Here they had to answer questions such as, "which suitability confirmation has Buschjost received for power stations?" or complete tasks such as, "fetch a menu from the canteen".

The career starters undergo an intensive induction phase at Buschjost, before they go into their respective specialist departments according to the training plan. There they are integrated into ongoing projects and get actively involved in everyday life at Buschjost. In their training, however, they don't merely learn all there is to know about their particular work station and valve technology; they can also get a taste of other areas. At monthly training sessions, the trainees introduce different areas by themselves, thereby learning about the corporation, how products are created, quality, as well as the financial sector or purchasing.

At the end of August all trainees then go on a "getting-to-know-you" two-day tour with their trainers. "Through activities and lots of time spent together they can get to know each other even better, and are better able to match up their expectations with our requirements. Right at the beginning we want to convey our passion for valve technology, the focal point for Buschjost employees on a daily basis, to the trainees in these two days.", says Lutz Missbach.

Two of the seven new Buschjost employees are female. In order to encourage more young women to take an interest in scientific/technical professions, Buschjost is now also participating in the project "MINTrelation Zukunftswerkstatt Technikberufe (MINTrelation technical professions in the future), under the auspices of OWL MAschinenbau (a network of 272 companies in the engineering sector in the East-Westphalia-Lippe region). Female trainees and experienced women specialists (ambassadors) from ten technical companies in the East Westphalia-Lippe (OWL, in German Ost-Westfalen-Lippe) region give career guidance and information about practical experiences to schoolgirls.

"Women work in all technical disciplines at Buschjost. We have female engineers, technicians, product designers, women with different technical qualifications in manufacturing and assembly, with and without management responsibility, with and without children", explains Caroline Zischka, Buschjost contact for the MINTrelation project and area manager for research & development. "We have had excellent experiences with women in technical professions, therefore young women naturally belong in our technical training programme. We need motivated and well-trained employees for our company to be successful. We need to tap the high potential of women - and we want to do this, too! We hope that our experiences will encourage women to take advantage of the good opportunities and scope for development that technical professions offer."
