Market with potential
Buschjost stands for the future. "Of course, our intensive research and development work carried out
in the fields of energy and the environment does not only cover a highly interesting market from an
economic point of view, but we are also involved in activities in a sector which has definitely become
a focal point of interest in our society", says Mike Weide. The head of the Energy and Environment
division "E&E" at Buschjost sees a virtually inexhaustible market potential worldwide waiting to be
tapped in this field: "Although the issue of > environment< is already well represented in Western Europe,
there is still a very long way to go before a saturation of the market is reached. People in Asia, the
USA and Eastern Europe are just beginning to develop an awareness for this subject. There are markets
waiting for us in many sectors in these countries which are still almost virtually untapped!"
"E&E" is based on three strong pillars at Buschjost: Air pollution control, conventional energy and
renewable energy. Air pollution control is already an established market for Buschjost, as Mike Weide
explains: "We have been manufacturing valves for dust separation equipment in a wide variety of industries
for over 25 years now. We have been setting increasingly high standards with our products and have
therefore played a decisive role in the progress of environmental protection in this sector."
Buschjost is currently focusing its development activities on reducing nitrogen oxide emissions from
mineral oil combustions – "an extremely hot topic of the future", emphasises Weide, who has been with
the company for many years.
In the field of conventional energies, Buschjost is particularly involved in power plant technology.
According to Mike Weide, Buschjost provides a comprehensive range of products and services for this
field: "The company supplies valves for applications in coal-fired power plants to nuclear power
plants – for water supply and drainage purposes, for flue gas scrubbing, for generator cooling or
the cleaning of dust filters, also taking into account the problem of particulate matter."
Hardly any other sector places such high demands on reliability and safety of components as those
placed by operators of power plants, and this is exactly the reason why Buschjost valves are so sought
after due to their high quality standards. Mike Weide: "Buschjost is certified in accordance
with >KTA 1401< - even for application in nuclear power plants. The company’s range of products also
includes special valves which have to meet the immensely high requirements in this sector – in other
words, absolutely high-tech products of the highest of standards in terms of safety and quality."
Fuel cells, biofuels and biogas are renewable forms of energy whose full market potential will not be
developed to the full until some time during the next few years. They are however markets in which
Buschjost already has a determining influence on the speed of development and progress. Mike Weide: "For
instance, although the stationary fuel cell is still widely in the experimental stages, first devices
will be ready for the market by 2012." Valve technology developed by Buschjost plays a central
role here: "The task of the valves is to drain off condensation and to control reformate, gas, air
and water in the heating circuits, whereby each new generation of our high-grade steel and plastic valves
applied in this field achieves increasingly better results. The technology market leaders in the
stationary fuel cell sector rely just as much on products made by Buschjost as do the most innovative
manufacturers of biogas plants or biofuel engines."
In view of the growing importance of the energy and environment markets, Mike Weide is confident
that the management has made the right decision to further expand its development department in order
to draw on the experience and skills of highly qualified specialists in the team for all core subject
areas: "Today, the environment and energy sectors already account for a large proportion of sales of
Buschjost valves. Owing to the enormous growth rates in this sector, I am convinced that we will double
this proportion in just a few years."
