Focus on brand strength

Buschjost is back in the lead: Managing Directors Michael Preinerstorfer and Oliver Wehking explain that the reasons
for the transition from "IMI Norgren Buschjost GmbH + Co. KG" to "Buschjost Norgren GmbH & Co. KG" coinciding
with the 75th anniversary of the company are based on clear market policy considerations and that the new name
is not a >birthday present< for the work force: "Buschjost is among the very strong brands from Ostwestfalen-Lippe,
(East Westphalia-Lippe) and it enjoys a worldwide reputation as one of the top three suppliers of fluid control
solutions >made in Germany<. The aim of the parent company is to use the name change to clearly emphasise this brand
strength – this goal is also expressed in our new logo design with Buschjost occupying a central position."
The company has come a long way since February 28th, 1933 when Friedrich Buschjost opened a workshop for
electric motors. Today, the subsidiary of the internationally operating Norgren Group is a global player providing
secure jobs for more than 300 employees in Bad Oeynhausen-Lohe. In 1953, while still under the management of the
company’s founder, the production of simple magnetic valves was started, thus laying the foundations for the rapid
development of the company.
Despite its fast rate of growth, Buschjost never had difficulties in recruiting qualified staff in all those years:
Being employed at the Bad Oeynhausen-based manufacturer of magnetic valves has always been tantamount to a
secure job – Buschjost is, without doubt, one of the most sought-after employers in East Westphalia.
Some of the important milestones in the history of the company have definitely been the new buildings constructed
as part of its expansion and, of course, its incorporation in the IMI-Norgren Group in 1997, which opened up new
areas of business for Buschjost across the globe.
Managing Director Michael Preinerstorfer is also pinning his hopes for success for the next few years on
ever-increasing globalisation: "Buschjost has been achieving double-figure growth rates for many years now –
particularly due to the continuous growth of our export content. We shall, in the near future, attain a share
of sales from foreign transactions of at least 50 percent." It is particularly in the USA, Eastern Europe and
in the emerging markets of India or China that Preinerstorfer sees huge potential for growth: "We have already
established ourselves in Western Europe in outstanding fashion."
The fact that manufacturing in Bad Oeynhausen will benefit from this goal with regard to exports is obvious
to Technical Managing Director Oliver Wehking: "Buschjost has always carried out investments in Bad Oeynhausen
and will continue to do so. Despite rising output figures, we are interested in maintaining our own high
vertical range of manufacture. This means: We do not only have to ensure that our manufacturing site is state
of the art, but we shall also increasingly require skilled workers, engineers, quality assurance officers
and sales staff."
The trend is already towards more and more technically sophisticated and customised valves or system solutions,
a development which Buschjost greatly benefits from, as Preinerstorfer points out: "Buschjost is well
established in the market as a technology and innovation leader, which also sets standards in terms of quality –
Buschjost manufactures reliable products and also offers service and advice!"
In addition to the traditional Buschjost markets, such as mechanical and plant engineering or vehicle construction,
the company has also been turning its attention to markets of the future for some years now, such as water treatment
and the energy and environment sector. In this case, too, according to the management, the company succeeded in
recognising market trends and becoming involved in these sectors. Michael Preinerstorfer: "We would not be
exaggerating if we said that even in the fields of renewable energies such as biogas, vegetable oil or the fuel
cell – segments which are only just beginning to develop – Buschjost is among the most innovative companies
and is one of the driving forces behind progress."
In view of the company’s own strengths, Preinerstorfer does not forget to highlight the part played in the success
of the enterprise by the Norgren Group. "Of course, the worldwide, closely linked network of a >parent< with a work
force in excess of 6,000 on all continents affords us opportunities both in terms of sales and purchasing and even
in development which a medium-sized enterprise would otherwise not have.
All things considered, it would not be an exaggeration to say that in the year of its 75th anniversary,
Buschjost is in a better position than ever before to meet the requirements and demands of the future."
